Digital Babylon

*Digital Babylon?

I’m reading Live No Lies, by John Mark Comer and came upon the idea that we are living in Digital Babylon. For me, those two words communicate what I’ve been thinking, feeling and wrestling with. We are strangers and exiles. (Hebrews 11:13 ESV) This world is not our home. (John 17:16 NIV) We are sojourners in a land belonging to others. (Acts 7:6 ESV) This isn’t a news flash for those of us who follow Christ. This life is a journey that involves trusting our God of comfort and hope to lead us safely home. I don’t like being vulnerable, emotionally or physically. I prefer well-lit paths and predictable routes. I’d rather skip the steep climbs on crumbling rocks. I don’t want to consider the trail with sharp turns and unpredictability. I want to hide and come out only when the coast is clear. Evidently, this is not an option. Believe me. I have tried. I’m not proud of my history of shrinking back in fear and I’m certainly not boasting.

I will boast that my Father loves me and reassures me with each step I take. When I cry out and want to hide, He reassures me that I am hidden in Him.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.(Psalm 91:4 NIV)

All of us are faced with fears daily, both real and imagined. The “what if’s” that can cause a heart to race and peace to evaporate. I’m asking myself what I want more. Pretend to be hidden and “safe”? (Think hiding under the covers as a child. If you can’t see the monsters, they can’t see you.) Or, living in the tension, serving as a light and vessel to a broken world?

We have been given the freedom to choose. Walk on the path He has for us, regardless of how it looks or feels. Or not. Today I’m stepping out into digital Babylon and exposure. Maybe my trust in the God of all comfort will help you trust as well.

If you have found this website, it is because you are most likely living in the tension of faith and sexuality as God defines it. You are not walking alone. That immediately reminds me of a song. Matt Redman, Never Once. When we discovered our sons struggle with same sex attraction we struggled in our own way. Never Once ministered to us in a beautiful way. #MattRedman #NeverOnce #Vevo

Reassuring and encouraging. God is bigger than any fears, real or imagined and Jesus has already won our battle. The struggles are real, but so is the victory.
